Checking in....

O Divine Mother, I Am Thine,
For Thou Art Eternally Mine

I lay garlands of my devotion, strung with many-hued flowers
of lofty inspiration, at Thy lotus feet.
I beheld Thee dancing in the twinkling stars. I glimpsed Thy
scintillating magic in the aurora borealis. I heard the dance of
Thy beating feet in crashing ocean waves as they rushed toward
earth's shores. I marveled at Thy leaps and pirouettes portraying,
on the great stage of time, evolution's fantastic upward sweep. And
I thrill to see, everywhere, excitement and activity in Thy great
drama of all life.
Alas, Divine Mother! I have yet to behold Thy bliss-faced
peeping from behind what I now know to be only veils! The thick
clouds of outward appearances are offset by little, teasing hints of
Thy smile, reflected in my breeze-rippled, flickering thoughts.
How long I have yearned to behold Thee! My yearning burns
with a million tongues of flame. They leap high, and light the vast
firmament of my consciousness. The force that holds together the
planets binds together also into a heavy ball the burden of my
self-recognition, holding me to earth. Yet the twinkling stars of my
soul-aspiration spin high overhead, and form a mighty whirlwind
which draws me upward. Their light beams down upon me,
banishing my shadows of ignorance and dissolving, one by one, all
the crusted limitations that cover my soul. Light transforms the gray
pebbles of my desires into shining crystals reflecting Thy joy.
By my light of concentrated aspiration, all falseness has been
consumed. Ah, but, Divine Mother, where art Thou? A great void
around me mocked my very yearning.
"Why?" I asked. And my tears fell--dewdrops of shining light
from my firmament above. Then at last Thy sweet voice came,
tender with compassion; I heard Thee say: "Thy very light by which
thou seekest Me is, already, Myself! Thou hast sought Me else-
where than in thyself; yet I am thou! Thou art I! There can never
be aught but thine own Self. I come to thee through thyself.
Worship me as separate, if you like, but know who I am: thy very
own Self! O eternally beloved child, we are one!"
Mother, how can I thank Thee! I will ever be Thine, for Thou
art eternally mine. Still, I love to behold Thee through my window
of self-understanding as if dancing outside me also; to see Thee
smiling with tantalizing sweetness! Yet I know the dance takes
place, in truth, only here in my heart.

So sorry I have not been around these last few months. Family concerns and various health issues and, well, life in general has keep me very busy as of late. I hope to be blogging more often as I miss it greatly:) I hope all is well for my fellow kindred spirits out there. Goddess Bless Always!

You are Goddess

I just love this quote from Osho! Every woman is a Goddess whether she believes herself to be or not. No two women are alike. We are all different and unique in our own beautiful way. Many of you have still to tap into the amazing Divine potential within. Yes you have divine potential. You are like the budding rose waiting to blossom or the lotus waiting to flower into a thousand petals. Like a flower that has yet to open you have many layers to yourself that are hidden. Part of your divine mission in life is to open yourself completely to all that life has in store for you. Stop doubting yourself, and surrender.

It does not matter how old you are, it is never too late to discover your true nature. The key to discovery is learning to love yourself first, without validation from another human being. No one need validate what already exists within you. You are Goddess!

Look at yourself in the mirror every single day, several times a day, and repeat, “I am Goddess! I am love!” I chant a sanskrit mantra every single day ‘aham prema’ I am Divine Love! Say it, believe it!

Shiva's Wild Woman

(artwork: Roger Williamson Art)

Shiva's Wild Woman

I am femininity embodied,
Deity made flesh, perfection
Embedded in flaw.
Un-submissive feminist,
Freedom-fighting,
Barefoot mama on a mission
To strengthen the sisterhood of souls.
The androgynous love, pouring
From my cosmic yoni
Paints the world in supernatural perceptions.
To one I am femme fatale,
Dangerously sacrilegious, ego-stripping
Mata Hari-esque.
To another, the primordial paradox,
The unsolvable puzzle.
To my Self, the constant
Creator and destroyer
Dancing my way
Through the universe.
Some call me
Shiva's wild woman.

The Wild Heart

The Wild Heart

Effeminate one,
Equivocate no more.

Stop undermining
Your purpose.

That pretentious ego bitch
Has been stealing
Your identity.

De-domesticize the
Feline, sitting perched
And pretty, kept in
Ornate patriarchal cages.

You hold the key
Against your
Counterfeit heart.

Dig a little deeper.
The feral roots are there.

A woman's liberation
Is not found in deprivation.

The wild heart
Knows no boundaries.

The Belly Dance

Dance of Ecstasy

Body in motion
Transcends time.
This wild woman syndrome
Takes hold
And sheds away
Pious parameters.
Sanctimoniousness
Falls down
Around my swaying figure
Like the shedding
Of snake skin.
I shake it off with
Gyrating hips
And quivering breasts.
Jangling of golden coin
At waist, vibrates
To the frequency
Of the Universe.
Spirit recognizes
The uncivilized call
Of the feminine.
Unconscious prakriti,
The primal force
Comes out
To play.
Animating its unrefined,
Yet refined drama
Through my spine,
Awakening
What lay dormant
At the base.
The dance
Of ecstasy
Begins.

About a month ago I took up belly dancing. I have always loved to dance and have enjoyed watching other women belly dance...It is quite mesmerizing. So I decided I would give it a try. I started with the Goddess Belly Dance workout by Dolphina (you can find her via google). I do it every day for 50 minutes. It is an amazing cardio workout, and I have also been using her Introduction to Belly Dance dvd, which has helped me immensely in learning  the various moves. I cannot express enough how incredibly liberating belly dancing makes me feel. I feel more empowered as a woman, and sexier too! Since starting, the dance has inspired my muse in poetry. It is hard to express how I feel while dancing...poetry is my chosen way of expressing something I feel deeply about in my soul. Dancing is just another way that the human spirit expresses itself in nature. It is a way that every woman can connect with her shakti...Dancing makes me feel like a Goddess!

She is a Goddess

~ Artist Rafael Espitia Perea

‎"A goddess is a woman who emerges from deep within herself. She is a woman who has honestly explored her darkness and learned to celebrate her light. She is a woman who is able to fall in love with the magnificent possibilities within her. She is a woman who knows of the magic and mysterious places inside her, the sacred places that can nurture her soul and make her whole. She is a woman who radiates light. She is magnetic. She walks into a room and male and female alike feel her presence. She has power and softness at the same time. She has powerful sexual energy that’s not dependent on physical looks. She has a body that she adores and it shows by the way she comfortably lives and moves in it. She cherishes beauty, light and love. She is a mother to all children. She flows with life in effortless grace. She can heal with a look or a touch of the hand. She is fiercely sensual and fearlessly erotic and engages in sex as her way to share with another in touching the divine. She is compassion and wisdom. She is seeker of Truth and cares deeply about something bigger than herself. She is a woman who knows that her purpose in life is to reach higher and rule with love. She is woman in love with love. She knows that joy is her destiny and by embracing it and sharing it with others, wounds are healed. She is a woman who has come to know that her partner is as tender, lost, and frightened as she has been at times. She has come to understand the scars of the boy in him and knows that together, love can be the relief, the healing of their wounds. She is a woman who can accept herself as she is. She can accept another as they are. She is able to forgive her mistakes and not feel threatened by another’s even when attacked. She is a woman who can ask for help when she needs it or give help when asked. She respects boundaries, hers and another’s. She can see God in another’s eyes. She can see God in her own. She can see God in every life situation. She is woman who takes responsibility for everything she creates in her life. She is a woman who is totally supportive and giving. She is a Goddess."

Mother Moon...

Luis Ricardo Falero, Moon Nymph

Mother Moon

Oh Mother Moon, who guides this inner world,
you are my secret dream, my hidden inmost need,
obscured by the outer facade
that keeps me shroud in deception.
You are the gatekeeper
of the nethermost regions of my soul.

Internal sanctums of consciousness,
Oh Luna, are your garden for my inner child.
Vulnerable, exposed,
when your luminous light shines upon me.
I am naked,
conflicted with my exoteric nature.

Oh Selene, beautiful winged goddess!
You ride upon the intuitive waters
of my psyche,
expanding my resilience on golden wing,
clipped, I  am mercurial,
quicksilver, changing from moment to moment.

Sentimental fool, you take me for,
immersing me in a pool of nostalgia
only to rebirth the past,
again and again.
You slumber in the dark abyss
of my imagination, laying in wait
to reveal my aesthetic beauty.

Mother Moon, arcane enchantress,
animating the rhythmic
ebb and flow of all life,
waxing maiden, waning crone,
wandering through my clandestine realms,
bending me to my knees, your lesson
in wholeness unravels me.
You speak of 'new beginnings', forcing
me to bury old wounds in the
graveyard of my heart, where you stand
as guardian of my authentic Self.

The Cosmic Poet

I have become an avid poet and will be sharing some of my works on this blog, but if you want to follow my poetry blog I would be happy to have you:) For a long time I have struggled with expressing myself to the outside world. It is not that I am not open to others, per say, more that my outer expression does a poor job of relating my inmost feelings. Poetry has opened up a whole new world for me. Most all of my poetry expresses some aspect of myself, such as the poem above. My astrological birthchart has indicated my difficulty of reconciling my inner and outer worlds together. I think most see me as one thing on the outside surface, but confuse that with what I really am deep inside. I am so thankful to have discovered this new found love of the written word in the form of poetry. I will also be trying my hand at some prose as well:)
I greatly appreciate those who take the time to read my words. Most of us have a deep need to share ourselves with the others in some form or another. To make a difference in someone's life. There are so many ways to express ourselves, the arts is just one way. I think the greatest  is when we serves others, with no ulterior motive, just the simple joy of giving. This is what Karma yoga is all about.
I hope that through my poetry I may be able to touch some heart, as other's poetry has touched mine. This poem above is part of a series of astrological poems I am creating. Astrology is another huge passion of mine. I am studying it and hope to become at least an amateur astrologer one day. As of yet, I have only studied Western astrology, but would love to learn Vedic (jyotish) astrology as well. I have enjoyed mingling astrology with poetry:)

The Womb of the Universe

My Mother,
Immeasurable,
Auspicious doorway,
Clothed in space,
Dressed in emptiness
Adorned only by vastness
The naked moment,
Birthing in every second renewed and continual

You create our worlds, for pleasure, play, and our learning
You measure all worlds, you measure us into existence
You birth all worlds, you birth us
You nurse all worlds, you nurse us
You grow all worlds, you grow us
You dissolve all worlds, you are the end of us as we know ourselves
You mature all worlds, you are our maturing

You are our supporter, mother of the universe
Cause of bliss,
Golden
Destroyer of misery and poverty,
Bestower of eloquence, the power of speech
The virtuous bestower of magnificent desires
The rider of time, the dissolver of time, the creator of time

Slayer, mother, and nurse
Servant and sovereign
Authority and student
Worshipped and the worshipper
You live in the act in between
The play, player, played, and the playing
The magic of nothing within the loving field of everything

The power of Women
Supreme and subservient
Dancing life into being
Serving and being served

The power that is unstoppable
Drunk on bliss
Wielding the cleaver that separates false from true
Untouched, unattached, by passion, yet the heart of passion itself
The red flow, death of the ego
Creator of fear, laughing loudly at its play
The luminous beauty of the eyes that see so clearly
Rolling with love piercing with gratitude
Flashing
Yet demure, deep, and enticing
In the softness of the lotus heart
Adorned with rubies glowing

Your form is the night of time
Eternal night, eternal rest
A bed where all identities come to dissipate

You are the authentic sound of Being
Creation resounding resonating
Rumbling through awareness
The hum in the back of our thoughts
The hum in the background of our feelings
The hum as our bodies unite

Dominate in bed
Tiger footed in movement
Sure and agile
Graceful and serene
Hair wild and free flowing in all directions
You ride creation into being

As the power of time
You devour us, your children
As the power of time
You stand astride, resplendent upon the corpse of this universe
When we are born you are there
When we die you are there also
Eternally the same in the intensity of being

All our acts, all our fruits, come back to you Mother
Everything returns back to you
It is only our arrogance that stops us seeing the truth as it is

All that is limited fears that beyond its limits
You as the creator of time, stand beyond time, beyond limits
One who is beyond all fear can protect us all from fear
As long as we identify with anything there is fear
This is why you are clothed in space
The dissolving of all fear into freedom

Is God Pro-Choice??

   Photo: Alain Baumgarten

I've noticed recently on many spiritual blogs, twitter, facebook..etc.. many who are suggesting that if you are a deeply spiritual being that you have some kind of obligation to vote for a certain candidate or party platform or you are somehow not in line with God/Goddess....I cannot disagree more. First off as a deeply spiritual being, I would never presume to tell any other human being who they should vote for. I personally do not believe that God/Goddess cares one way or another who I vote for as long as I am using my inner intuition in the process.
Who is anyone to tell me that the Divine is pro-choice or pro-life. What makes my views righteous and someone else's evil? That smacks of dogma if you ask me. Also, I find it distasteful for someone to give personal attacks against  a political candidate and in the next breath say that we should love all human beings. It is one thing to disagree with someone's political views and  another to vilely attack their character. I happen to believe that the two men running for president are good and decent human beings, wonderful husbands and fathers, and genuinely want to do what is best for their country. My responsibility is to listen to my 'higher Self'' when deciding who I would choose to be the leader of our Nation.

“Making others happy, through kindness of speech and sincerity of right advice, is a sign of true greatness. To hurt another soul by sarcastic words, looks, or suggestions, is despicable.”
Paramahansa Yogananda

It might be wise for us to heed the words of Yoganandaji and take a look at our own character before judging the character of another. We can disagree with others without holding them in contempt and spreading negative hearsay  in regards to their character. We should listen to the Spiritual Masters and Gurus  of the past, whose very lives were shining examples for us in how we should treat our fellow human beings, and yes that does include politicians:)

I Am Here......

I Am Here

Alone I roamed by the ocean's shore,
And watched
The wrestling waves in brawling roar--
Bounding with Thine own restless life.
I saw Thee in Thy angry mood, tossing and foaming
Until the very vastness of Thy wrath made me shiver
And turn away in dread from so much violence and strife.
And then I walked inland.
     A kindly, spreading, sentinel tree
Waved friendly arms to comfort me--
Consoling me with gentler look sublime,
Its leaves and branches swayed in tender lullaby-rhyme,
Conveying a message that I knew was Thine.
Above me, high
     I saw the gaugeless, mystic sky;
And, childlike, in dim valleys I sought to pry out
Thy secrets, and to play with Thee.
In vain, alas, did I seek Thee hiding there,
Cloud-robed, foam-sprayed, leaf-garlanded--
Too elusive for mortal eyes to see or ears to hear.
And yet,
I knew that Thou wert always near,
As if playing hide-and-seek with me,
Receding each time when I almost touched Thee.
I groped for Thee in the maddeningly complex folds
Of dark ignorance--as old as time itself is old.
At last--
I ceased my search, almost in despair:
What hope had I of finding Thee,
Thou Royal, Sly Eluder!
Thou art, I know, everywhere--
Yet Thou seemest nowhere: lost in unplumbed space,
Where none may clasp Thee or behold Thy face!
Yes, despairing,
     I ceased my fruitless search,
Turned huffily away from Thee:
My ploy was unsuccessful!
Still, still no answer from the wrathful sea,
And only whispers from the friendly tree;
Naught but silence from the limitless blue sky--
Silence from valleys low and mountains high!
Like a hurt child, within the depths of me
I hid and sulked--no longer seeking Thee.
And then, lo! suddenly:
     Unheralded, an Unseen Hand
Snatched from my eyes that all-black band
Which had blinded me so long with fold on fold.
No longer weary, but filled with strength untold,
I stood, and gazed again:
A laughing sea instead of wrathful roars!
A gay, glad world with mystically opening doors!
With only mists of dreams between,
Someone beside me stood unseen--
And whispered to me, calm and clear:
"Hello, playmate! I am here!"

Prayer is Timeless....

(Photograph: Steve McCurry, Kuchi Nomads, Evening Prayer, Kandahar, Afghanistan, 1992)

In prayer, we come nearest to making a real clearance in the thicket of thought. Prayer takes thought to a place of stillness. Prayer slows the flow of the mind until we can begin to see with a new tranquility. In this kind of thought, we become conscious of our divine belonging. We begin to sense the serenity of this clearing. We learn that regardless of the fragmentation and turbulence in so many regions of our lives, there is a place in the soul where the voices and prodding of the world never reach. It is almost like the image of the tree. The branches can sway and quiver in the wind, the center of the tree, there pertains the stillness of its anchorage. In prayer, thought returns to its origin in the infinite. Attuned to its origin, thought reaches below its own netting. In this way prayer liberates thought from the small rooms where fear and need confine it. Despite all the negative talk about God, the Divine still remains the one space where thought can become free. There we will be liberated from the repetitive echoes of our own smallness and blindness… Prayer is the path to the secret belonging at the heart of our other lives.

John O’Donohue from Eternal Echoes

This is one of the most beautiful representations on prayer I have ever read. Prayer is not so common a word used among modern western spiritual thinkers. My perspective is that many people in our day have become disenchanted with orthodox religion  and tend to associate prayer with dogma. This could not be further from the truth in my opinion. For me, prayer is as essential as meditation to connecting and merging with the Divine. Prayer is talking to God/Goddess/Universe to convey some desire hoped for or expressing gratification for desires met. Spoken affirmations can also be considered a kind of prayer. Meditation, on the other hand, involves no action other than listening and just being. Unfortunately due to narrow-minded thinking prayer has been branded as religious and meditation as irreligious yet spiritual. In truth, prayer and meditation when used together, create a harmonious song of Oneness in the soul.

Nirvani

I'm back:)

From the beginning of my life
I have been looking for your face
but today I have seen it

Today I have seen
the charm, the beauty,
the unfathomable grace
of the face
that I was looking for

Today I have found you
and those who laughed
and scorned me yesterday
are sorry that they were not looking
as I did

I am bewildered by the magnificence
of your beauty
and wish to see you
with a hundred eyes

My heart has burned with passion
and has searched forever
for this wondrous beauty
that I now behold

I am ashamed
to call this love human
and afraid of God
to call it divine

Your fragrant breath
like the morning breeze
has come to the stillness of the garden
You have breathed new life into me
I have become your sunshine
and also your shadow

My soul is screaming in ecstasy
Every fiber of my being
is in love with you

Your effulgence
has lit a fire in my heart
for me
the earth and sky

My arrow of love
has arrived at the target
I am in the house of mercy
and my heart
is a place of prayer

~Rumi

Hello my dear friends! I have been off the internet for nearly a month and a half and I am finally coming back. It has been marvelous! I quite literally walked away from almost everything in the technical world. I even quit watching television for a good deal of the time I was on my Solitude Sabbatical. My sadhana up to this point has been very deep and revealing for me. I cannot say that I am even close to where I want to be on a spiritual level, but I am at least a few steps closer:) I fight a great deal with myself. I was telling my husband just today that I am my own worst enemy. It is a fierce inner battle for me to reconcile my outer life with my inner most regions. Yes, at the age of 43 I am still trying to find myself. I can attest to all of you young people out there, the older you get the harder it is to create positive change in your life and rid yourself of old habits. They can plague you and just when you think you have finally won the war they rear their ugly little heads once again. This is reminiscent of Sri Krishna's words to Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita:

When you let your mind heed the Siren call of
the senses, they will carry away your better judgment
as storms drive a boat off its safe-charted course to
certain doom.
Use all your power to set the senses free from
attachment and aversion alike, and live in the full
wisdom of the Self.

It is a curious thing to find one's self continuing on in some bad habit and finding no will to resist. I have come to the conclusion that it is virtually impossible to resist the senses without the help of some higher power, and I don't mean up there somewhere in the sky. I refer to that 'inner power' of the higher Self. So how to draw it out and draw upon it? For me it is quite literally turning heart and soul in devotion to my ishta devata...she being the Divine Mother of the Universe...Maa.
It is an interesting thing to see mysticism working in one's life. I use the word mysticism because, well to be frank, there just is no other way to explain the many little events that happen in a single day, week, or month that are unexplainable miracles. Each day I implore the Mother to manifest in my daily life. That I may see her work evident in me and all around me, and every time I witness some little synchronicity I just smile and say to myself, 'Maa is teaching me again'. It is only through the Divine Feminine that we are able to achieve anything. We cannot succeed in life without the Goddess's grand play of shakti. Even if we do not acknowledge it, it still exists.
I know that there are many types of sadhana for many different personalities, for me japa mantra is the most powerful. I sometimes think I could chant all day:) There are times when I have been chanting for a while and I close my eyes and I can feel the sacred sanskrit words penetrating my very being....vibrating through me. At those times I feel so alive and at one with everything around me. I have been working with a mantra over the last two weeks that is quite powerful. It is called the Maha Ganapathi Step Mantra. I chose this mantra because I just adore Lord Ganesha and know he is the great remover of obstacles...and with the obstacles I am trying to overcome I knew I needed a real doozy of a mantra...hehehe.

Om Swaha
Om Shreem Swaha
Om Shreem Hreem Swaha
Om Shreem Hreem Kleem Swaha
Om Shreem Hreem Kleem Glaum Swaha
Om Shreem Hreem Kleem Glaum Gam Swaha
Om Shreem Hreem Kleem Glaum Gam Ganapatayei Swaha
Om Shreem Hreem Kleem Glaum Gam Ganapatayei Vara Varada Swaha
Om Shreem Hreem Kleem Glaum Gam Ganapatayei Vara Varada
      Sarva Janam Me Vasham Swaha
(Each line is repeated from 3 to 108 repetitions counted out on the mala beads...when repeating each line 108 times it takes roughly 90 minutes)

Japa mantra is an incredible mystical form of worship that can bring about amazing results in one's life. I can attest to its great power. It is always wise to seek counsel when engaging in sanskrit mantra. There are many mantras that are quite popular and are considered tried and true such as the Gayatri Mantra, which is my favorite of all mantras. I chant it daily during devotions and through out the day. You can find many great books about mantra. Two of my favorite authors, who happen to be adepts in the field of mantra are Swami Vamadeva Shastri (Dr. David Frawley) and Namadeva (Thomas Ashley-Farrand). They are both very respected voices throughout the mystic community. It is my dream to attend a retreat sponsered by Vamadeva Shastri and his wife Shambhavi Lorain Chopra, who happens to be a mystic yogini herself.
I will continue my mantra practice for at least 40 days if not more and feel quite confident that it will reap great results in my life. I am truly grateful to my beloved Maa for guiding me on my life's journey. I would implore anyone to find your own personal mantra and repeat it daily, for strength to overcome and as a reminder that you are a Divine Being having a human experience, that you are not your body or your mind. Do not let your outer self convince you that it is what you truly are, you are your 'inner Self, the Soul and it is the soul's purpose to find its way back to the Source.

Finding my Goddess....

Last summer when I started my Spiritual quest to find a path that would reach deep into my soul, I was pretty convinced that it would be of the witchcraft variety. As I read and read and read some more....and meditated and pondered and contemplated and eventually tried to force something magical to happen, all I managed to do was overwhelm myself and cloud my mind with all kinds of doubts... so I stepped back from that whole spiritual concept all together.
Somewhere within that time period I discovered Taoism and Buddhism and began to explore Eastern philosophies and I started to feel that spiritual spark again and it felt good and right...eventually I steered toward Hinduism, more specifically Shaktism (Goddess worship). The funny thing was it kind of found me. Well, lets just say that she found me...my Goddess! All those months that I could just not wrap my mind around the concept of Goddess to save my life! I saw a picture of her online and started to read about her and it was like pure magic!! It was like I had come home...I kid you not! It actually made me cry...I love everything about her...Maha Lakshmi. She is everything that is beautiful and good and right in Godliness. She is one aspect of the Divine Mother. She is sweetness and harmony and beauty! She brings profound happiness where ever she is present...like an intoxicating bliss. When I perform japa (mantra) to her in devotion, every time I come away feeling the most rapturous feelings of intense joy. I have no doubt that she is with me and hears my prayers.

I was told that we often bind ourselves to the Devi that we most identify with...since the ultimate desire and goal is to see Devi (Goddess) within ourselves. I know that she is all that I wish to aspire to. That I might strive in my personal life to live by the qualities that she holds dear to her is the greatest desire of my heart... It pains me greatly when I feel that I have fallen short of that, and I do so very often. I am so grateful every day when I gaze upon her image and come to her in meditation and devotion and feel her Divine presence in my little sacred space called home. I finally feel that I have found the spiritual path that will continue to lead me to enlightenment over and over again... and it is through my Divine Mother Lakshmi... who will always be a Mother, a Friend, and a Sister to me...
